The Balvenie DoubleWood takes David Stewart MBE whisky that has spent at least 12 years in traditional whisky casks and ex-bourbon American Oak casks and moves it into ex-Oloroso Spanish oak sherry casks for a further nine months. The whisky is then transferred to large oak vessels called ‘tuns’ for 3-4 months to allow the whiskies from each cask to ‘marry’. Balvenie Double Wood single malt whisky gains its distinctive character when matured in two different types of wood. Each stage adds different qualities to the resulting single malt whisky.
